Kamchatka is a peninsula in northeastern Russia, bordered by the Sea of Okhotsk in the west and the Bering Strait and the Pacific Ocean in the east.
The peninsula is stretched from north to south for 1200 km. It is connected to the mainland by a narrow (up to 93 km) isthmus.
Volcanoes are one of the main attractions of Kamchatka.
There are more than 300 of them on the peninsula.
One of the signs of good weather is the visibility of the tops of volcanoes.
